This is a great question and probably the one that is asked the most. Here is a list of items that you will need to get your beginner, or you as a beginner, started in the world of BMX racing.
Outerwear for BMX Beginners
Long-sleeved shirt: This is for your protection. A long sleeve shirt will help protect you from the bumps and scuffs that you will face as a racer. Wiping out on dirt can really do a number to your skin, so it's best that you try and keep it covered up.
Long pants: Again, this is for your protection. You don't have to have fancy racing pants, in fact a pair of jeans will do.
Good shoes: I can't stress this enough. Almost all athletic sports require the proper foot wear, and this includes BMX racing. Beginners and novices should make sure that they pick out shoes that are sturdy and comfortable.
A helmet: Different associations require a few different things when it comes to helmets. Check with whatever association you are wanting to race for to make sure that you have the proper helmet. I will cover the differences in another post.
Gloves: You don't have to have gloves, but you will be glad you did. Find a pair that fits good. Also, test out the gloves before racing with them on, because some gloves are slippery on the grips and you don't want your hand to slip off.
BMX Racing Review
I'm guessing that you have pretty much all of the stuff I listed above. So before showing up to a track to race as a beginner or as a novice, make sure that you have a long-sleeved shirt, long pants, good shoes, a helmet, and possibly (I recommend it) gloves. If you have these things you are on your way to getting started in bmx racing.
